Heat, Humidity and HR based (aka MAF) Training

Image
This is one topic I wanted to touch upon since onset of summer but could not manage to do so due to other commitments and priorities. Finally, I'm here with some thoughts which are particularly with respect to MAF based heart rate (HR) training  in hot and humid environment. In order to understand it in a better way, lets divide this problem (not really a problem!) further into below sections and solve it meticulously: Heat/Humidity impact on our heart Should we tweak our basic training strategy? Handling hot/humid weather Adversity or opportunity? Key Take-aways Heat/Humidity impact on our heart HEAT: Its proven fact that sizzling temperature in the summer (or due to sauna bath, sun bath on sea beach etc :) ) forces our dear heart to work harder. For every single degree rise in our internal temperature, heart beats 8-12 times more in a minute and as a runner or endurance athlete it hurts us, doesn't it, specially when we're doing MAF traing ( or HR ba...

Runner's View on corona aka COVID 19

Its good to get stuck sometimes. Stuck on a dream and working tirelessly until it becomes reality, stuck on a focused mind attaining highest level of spirituality, stuck on your very own physical state following particular health program, diet, exercises etc . But, once in a several life-time, we get stuck on a pandemic and quarantined in a few square yard area also and thats the time now 😊 May be nature desperately needed one RESET signal to be asserted from our side but we didn't have enough time in our fast paced life to look at it. Seeing no other option left, it took one decision in the form of COVID 19 to take care of itself... to have some leisure time for itself...to teach a lesson to all human viruses that "Your very own existence solely depends upon the nature, upon the ecosystem you live in and upon the every tiniest of particles of universe you don't care about!". Hope, this tough time will also pass by. Though I am not sure if the human ci...

Netarhat, me and running

Image
"Had you been runner in school or college days?" My sports doctor asked me after half an hour complete body muscle inspection. I was there in his clinic for my recurring Achilles Tendonitis or heel pain or whatever you call. I said "Yes doctor!" , What was your best pace in 5K? He continued, I said 3:36 min/KM when i was in class 10th. Okk! So, your problem is not just physiological! Its psychological as well. You are carrying a burden of glorious past which is forcing you to push in present and making you injury prone! Forget your past first! Your muscle memories are gone with time due to lack of running and cherry on the cake is your luxurious footwear! "Doc, I was a barefoot runner then. I feel some memory should be there if not all" In reply he said "you have reached to a point where your muscle has become so weak that I can not even recommend you to go for a run with minimalist, forget barefoot!" I came back home with all the exercise and ...

Frustrating MAF!

Prerequisite of feeling this article is: You are already in MAF training for weeks/months/years! If you have recently started then you can just read it, you cant feel it! Better to read this and related links on priority.  Infinite Problems! Let me check your inner thoughts first. Go through the following statements: 1. MAF is really boring! 2. My pace is not improving even after months of training. 3. Aah! Sometimes I really crawl to keep my HR in MAF zone. 4. Cool-down has never been even a jog for me! 5. As soon as I leave home, my HR goes above 100 without showing any mercy at me! 6. God! I could easily do 4:30 min/km for 10K. Why the hell I am doing 10K at 7:30 pace. Isn’t it ridiculous! 7. As soon as temperature rises, I have no options left but to walk. 8. I don’t feel I have done any workout even after running 10-12K. I don’t really get feeling of accomplishment, sense of achievement! 9. I am getting passed easily by runners who clocked ev...
